The Shamwari
Game Reserve is steeped in settler history, and dates back to the
time when game roamed freely in the Eastern
Cape. Shamwari
means 'friend' in the Shona Language, but now its about conserving
a vanishing way of life and is the realization of one man's dream,
and the success of many people's passion. This private Game Reserve
is malaria free and situated on the Garden Route of South
Africa and only 40 minutes by road from Port Elizabeth.
Shamwari Game
Reserve offers the guest a 'safari of a lifetime'. It is home to
over 5,000 animals such as lions, leopards, buffaloes, black and
white rhinos, elephants, hippos, and antelopes. A Wildlife Department
and full-time Anti Poaching Unit ensure that Shamwari's conservation
efforts remain in ecological balance with nature.
Recommended attire for summer is light clothing and swimwear. Warm
clothing and anoraks or jerseys for Land Rover trips. Other essentials
to bring are walking shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, sun protection
cream, cameras, and binoculars.
